Join us this Saturday at 2:00 for ways to release back pain while lengthening and strengthening your back. The hips have a lot to do with why our backs hurt or not flexible. We will dive into the best stretches to release hip pain and tightness.
Back bends open the heart they release tight hunched shoulders and expand our chest so that we can present ourselves from a place of an open heart, ready to fully receive what the universe has to offer us in the present. Using props like the Yoga Wheel also strengthens your legs, shoulders, and arms, and opens up your thighs and chest more effectively. It also energizes you and counteracts anxiety and depression by stimulating the thyroid and pituitary glands. Tight hips affect everything from your ability to get into a backbend to simply being able to pick up something off the floor. When hips are tight, they increase the load and cause overuse of the spine. In addition to the benefits of improved range of motion and circulation and decreased back pain, opening the hips can create an energetic shift or release as well. Yogic tradition holds the hips as a storage ground for negative feelings and pent up emotions, especially ones related to control in our lives. Hip opening can also create space for the birth of new ideas and new pathways. Opening the hips gives us access to freedom in the body and in our own unique expression — creatively, physically, sexually, and spiritually. This workshop is appropriate for beginner and intermediate yoga students. After a warm up, students will use various props, chairs, blocks, and straps to open their hearts, expanding their practice. This is an alignment based workshop, by learning the proper alignment students can expand and grow their practice.
